Marklund’s 16th Annual Top Hat Ball
Attorney, Kirsten Izatt attended Marklund’s 16th Annual Top Hat Ball on Saturday, February 11, 2012. The event was held at the Marriott Chicago Downtown. The theme of the evening was “An Evening in Paris.” The money raised from this fundraiser helps Marklund fill the gap between what is reimbursed by the state for each person served and what it takes to deliver the Marklund standard of care. A variety of gift packages were auctioned off in a live auction. In addition, there were a number of raffle packages. Everyone enjoyed a magical evening and a signifigant amount of money was raised for a great cause.
It all began in 1954 when Dr. Mary Ellen Reedy asked Clair Haverkampf, R.N. to provide foster care to little Mark William Lund who was born on December 21st at Elmhurst Hospital with Down Syndrome and severe cardiac complications. Claire started providing unconditional loving care to Mark five days later in the Haverkampf’s Northlake home, and many others would join their family as word spread. Claire and her husband Stan’s selfless act would turn into a special place of care for infants, children, and adults with special needs.
Marklund enriches the lives of those with special healthcare needs by honoring the unique purpose of each individual. Those that are served are able to enjoy a full and meaningful life supported by a compassionate, nurturing environment; a strong partnership with the community; and an unmatched dedication to personal growth.
